How to select a Digital Camera

Buying a digital camera entails making up your mind about the kind of digital camera you require, researching some by going through the ads in magazines and newspapers or on the Net and comparing models, then finally buying the digital camera from a store in your neighborhood or an online store. What kind of camera do you need? To choose a digital camera that satisfies your requirements, you nee to take the following into consideration:

Price: If you are looking for a digital camera in the entry level, then you could get one in the price range of $150 to $300.

Subject: Decide what it is you are going to take pictures of most of the time. If you are going to take pictures everyday, a compact point and shoot should suffice. But if you are looking to take breath-taking sceneries or portraits, then you should consider a medium sized point and shoot or digital SLR.

Size: How small or big would you prefer your digital camera to be? If you think it should fit in your pocket or perhaps in your purse, then you might want to buy an ultra compact digital camera.

Printing: If you intend making prints of your pictures up to size 8" × 10", then a 5 megapixel digital camera should be good enough. If you want to make bigger prints, then you might want to explore the option of going in for a medium sized point and shoot digital SLR that takes 6 megapixel photos at the least.

Brand: It is considered to be a good idea to opt for a particular brand in digital cameras and then continue with the same as you move on to newer models introduced over the years. This gives you the familiarity with the standard controls and features of the particular brand. If you already have lenses for a film camera that can be used on a digital SLR, you might think of buying a digital SLR of the same brand that can use the lenses.
